New WDW Hotel 4 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
After a nice (and very needed) Disney vacation, I decided to pull out my old book of Disney ideas (yes, I know I'm not the only one) and dust it off. I never shared any of them because I didn't know anyone who shared my passion. Anyway I've begun to retool them and I am going to share them here....hope you all like them.

First up.... a new Disney hotel and experience.

Disney's Emperial Resort

It is located on the piece of land between Disney Studios and Wide World of Sports.

It starts with a towering "NYC-like" skyline. Hence the misspelling of the name from imperial to Emperial. Across the road (towards WWS) is a parking lot for non-resort guests. Through a tunnel underneath the road they can access the "skyline". Guests exit the tunnel into the center of the "skyline", which is a exquisite replication of Grand Central Station. Here guests have a great deal to choose from.... they can eat/drink at the little coffee and counter service kiosks, have a drink at the piano bar, shop at the little shops, catch a show, or visit outside.

Catch a show? Did I say that! Of, course! To either side of the "Grand Central Terminal" are two theaters. One is a standard theater for Broadway style plays, whether they are already on Broadway, ones Disney wants to test, or even road shows. The other theater is a transitional theater, which can be set up for shows, dinner shows, award ceremonies, etc. This gives Disney another opportunity to give their guests something they can't get, unless they travel to New York or LA.

If guests exit the to the front of the building, they will enter a NYC style street. Here guests can experience urban shops, restaurants, spas, and possibly a couple of clubs. Some shops will even have a Disney twist on them..for example instead of a facade that says Macy's it says Mousy's. Guests can even experience what it would be like to walk down busy streets with steam coming up from the grates, enjoy a pretzel or even a dirty water dog. A NY style pizzeria and deli will have their water flown in from NY and be in climate controlled shops.

If guests exit through the back they enter into a miniature version of central park. Horse drawn carriages take visitors around the horse paths, while walking guests enjoy a nice stroll through the gardens and pathways. In the center of this park is a replica of Wolman Rink. Obviously they can't have ice, so a man made material is used in it's place. As guest stroll through the park the Emperial Resort appears. It is designed with the Plaza, Waldorf Astoria, Pennsylvania in mind...very elegant classic architecture. Attached to the hotel is a restaurant similar to Tavern on the Green, which guests can access from the park or from inside the hotel. It is a very upscale restaurant that can rival Victoria and Alberts.

I'll go into more detail and discuss more about the hotel later, right know I have to make dinner for my kids.

Hope everyone likes it!

This is an awesome idea, mickeysgal!

I would think it would be really great to make the theater accessible to non-resort guests so that it would draw in others to see the show like an actual Broadway theater. This way, Broadway touring companies could bring shows right there to Disney, and resort guests can book their seats with their reservations through CRO.

On the faux ice rink, (loved the idea) I see a ceramic statue of "Flying John," the character fom the "Rhapsody in Blue" segment of Fantasia 2K. The rhapsody should be playing in the loop, and the facades would be cool if they were done using Hirschfelds lines, to make you feel like you stepped into the segment.

Hope you like the suggestions as much as I enjoyed the original idea.

tloolgb, are you purposely picking on me in all my posts! just joking! I have never been to Vegas (except on TV), so I wouldn't know how they design their hotels.
I initially started with the theater concept, then felt that Disney would never just plop theaters in the middle of Florida. The allure of Broadway is certainly hightened by the excitement of NYC, so I incorporated that feeling to create a atmosphere and draw in the crowds. The hotel idea was recently added, since I am still working on details. But I think it would be a lovely idea to go to a play, have dinner, maybe window shop, without having to go across the entire resort for each thing. Also, I think it would give locals access to Broadway style musicals, that they would normally have to travel to NY to see.
I'll finish up the hotel and post it soon.

P.S. Princess Eilonwy, that's a nice way to incorporate Disney into the resort, I never thought of it, thanks!

Wasn't the Cirque Du Soleil La Nouba Theater originally supposed to be for other live theatrical events as well before it was used permanantly by Cirque?

I seem to remember hearing something about a theater being built for the new West Side of Downtown Disney to recieve National touring theater companies.

I'm not 100% on it, but I remember reading or hearing something like that.

It sounds like All Star Movies at Walt Disney World. They have a Toy Story section which is superb looking. Have you been there?
