Favorite Moderate Resort 4 Years, 4 Months ago

What is everyone's favorite moderate resort? I am thinking of staying for a few nights if I can convince my wife to go a few days earlier before our time share week and thinking of a moderate. Will have to as k them if they let a family of 5 stay in 1 room if there is an infant as one of the 5. The only one I have stayed in is the PO FQ so i would want to stay in a different one. The Coronado interests me but then I always get ticked at the thought of forced to pay gratuity at a food court.

In a few weeks, me, Sue and our dad will be staying at the Coronado. It's been awhile since we've stayed there so I'm looking forward to it.
As for what my favorite moderate is, it depends on what mood I'm in at the time. Caribbean and both Port Orleans offer a certain charm. But it is nice taking a boat from either FQ or Riverside to DTD. 8) That's a nice plus for me.

At both of the Port Orleans resorts you can do 5 if the 5th is an infant. That might choose for you. Honestly they are all good. But!
Coronado- Very pretty, georgeous is some spots. But the food court sucks, and with kids I'd say skip it. Kids like to choose thier own table, and being seated at a food court throws them off. Plus for you 8% tax to eat in the food court, that sucks too.
Caribbean- One of my favorite resorts of all time, however it is huge. That could mean a big walk for the kiddies to get to the food and or big pool (kids only like the big pool). Bigger chance of lousy view too.
French Quarter- Probably one of my favorite ever, (still can't beat the Caribbean for nostaglic reasons though). Beautiful in theme and execution, it is almost impossible to get a bad view here. Plus the bus stop and food court are always very close. Issues for some people are the small size means things close early, so no after park closes dinners. But with the kids that might not be an issue.
Riverside- Again, large size like the Caribbean, can mean a long walk to the food court...but plenty to do for you and the kids. 4 bus stops, never too far from a bus, and tons of people means everything stays open later (but the bar makes a weak margarita). However I took offense to the nature theme in the Bayou side...not only is it A) what I live in here in Banjoland, GA, it gets more rustic the farther from the mill (foodcourt) you stay (we were far). I took offense to the theme. I wanted one of the mansions.

Actually, I think if the 5th is an infant than you can get a crib from housekeeping at any moderate. Port Orleans Riverside has trundle beds for a 5th person to sleep on. It would have to be a kid because they're not comfortable for adults. You would want a crib though for an infant. My favorite is the Port Orleans complex, both French Quarter and Riverside. Tloolgb may be living in "banjoland" :-# But someone from the Great North may like it. The theme is the Mississippi Delta. The Bayou is more natural, and I think only 2 stories :?: They have the trundle beds. The mansions are more refined and fancy and go up to 3 stories.
Caribbean is beautiful, but big and unless you pay for a room close to the food court you could be in for a long walk.
Coronado is beautiful too, but a convention hotel and the food court does have the surcharge, but they do have a grab and go area with no surcharge and a sitdown restaurant. Will write a full report when we get back first of June.

My wife and I personally like PO FQ best. The only drawback being that they don't have Bonfamille's anymore (yeah, I know it's been gone for quite awhile, but I'm still hoppin mad about it ). We've also stayed at PO Riverside (when it was still Dixie Landings). My Wife has also stayed at Caribbean. We haven't been to Coronado Springs yet. Granted, my opinion is a bit slanted since FQ is where we spent our honeymoon.

I might aim for Carribbean as we want to do something other than French Quarter. Although We might stay off site as Nickelodeon Suites are cheaper and are suites. This however would not help my goal of staying at all WDW hotels so I will have to work on my wife . She says we are already staying at Boardwalk as well as going to disney with my family when we are at our timeshare the week before. SO?

There are hotels besides Disney's in Orlando? :?
If it's suites your after then just stay at the All Star Music. They have suites available this June.
The 520 Square Foot Family Suites are arriving at Walt Disney World! In December 2005, we showed you photos of model suites that were under consideration at All Star Music. Photo Gallery and Description The Suites are now a reality! Located in the Jazz Inn and Calypso buildings at All Star Music, reservations are now being accepted for stays beginning June 4, 2006. Pricing for 2006 will be Value Season: $169; Regular Season $209, Peak Season $239, and Holiday Season $259.
There are 52 suites in the Jazz building and upon completion, 192 suites will be located in the Jazz and Calypso buildings. The suite will sleep up to 6, plus one child in a Pak-n-Play crib. The master bedroom and family have a 27" flat screen TV as well as high speed internet access. There is a queen bed, full size pullout sofa, convertible ottoman and chair sleeper (4 separate sleepers). The kitchenette will have a microwave and small refrigerator (4.3 cubic feet) plus a coffeemaker. There are 2 full bathrooms!

this will help in your quest.

It ranks right up there wth not letting them drink and drive.
I will have to check on the suites at All Star Music.

Since we likely won't be doing much Disney for the 2 days prior to the rest of my family coming, my kids like Dora, and Nick suites are likely cheaper we might be going to Nick. Unless tloolgb can convince Disney to change El RIo into a Dora ride and then my kids will be happy and no reason to stay at the nick suites. Make it your first demand when you get there.

Having stayed at Coronado, Dixie Landings (back when) and just returned from Caribbean, I would say my favorite so far has been Coronado.....with Caribbean falling closely behind.
We just returned from 3 nights at the Caribbean Beach Resort today and I dont know if I just got myself too hyped up, or what, but I found it to be somewhat of a dull resort. =( Peaceufl yes, but the beach area was a letdown and the resort just seemed to be flat, with very little Disney flair. I did pay for a waterfront room and when we got there, our waterfront view consisted of a very obstructed view of the mini pool in Martinique....when I called and asked to be moved, Guest Services was gret and moved us to a beautiful beachfront room in Jamaica...so the view was perfect, but the resort just seemed to fall a little flat.

I absolutely love the Port Orleans French Quater. It was the first hotel my family stayed at in Disney...and we have't left yet. It was really quiet and wonderfully themed. That would be my choice!!!!

^I really like French Quarter, but I actually prefer the beautiful scenic calmness of Riverside. I know it's spread out, but if you get near the food area, it's all good.

^ I too like PORS (or Dixie Landings as I still call it). I recently found a Dixie Landings shot glass when packing for our eventual move. The Caribbean Beach was nice but I just thought it was too big.
Have a great day!

This is easy.
Port Orleans. Has the best looking concierge on all of property. I should know. Been married to him 12 years.
BTW, anyone under 3 doesn't count in your room count no matter what resort you stay in. You will have to call in your res. though. Can't do it online with an "infant". Online booking tries to count infants in the body count.
