i finished reading When Sara Smiles at the end of last week, and the next day i started reading To Kill A Mockingbird

my new year's resolution is to read more books; my dentist told me he reads a classic and then a modern, so thats my plan! i dont read enough, so my goal is to read at least 12 books this year..hopefully more!

^ That's a good system your dentist has going.

When Oprah was doing classics in her book club, that's I finally got around to reading The Heart is a Lonely Hunter and Anna Karenina.

I love To Kill a Mockingbird. I picked it in college to read because I had to pick a book off a list to do a report on. I ended up loving the book, and getting an A+ on my report! I love Scout. When you're finished with the book, you'll have to watch the movie with Gregory Peck. One of the few times the movie lives up to the book, IMO.

I had a system like your dentists going a while back. I would read an Oprah book club selection, when she was doing the classics (and needs to go back to again), a modern day book (usually something from the best seller list), and then a political book. My stepfather is very big into politics and would give me books to read. Alternating through the 3 different types worked pretty well. I got a lot read and it never got boring.

As for right now, I finished Beadle the Bard, which I really liked. Now, I'm onto Outliers by Malcom Gladwell. About how successful people got successful, and how much luck and other factors play a part in it. It's a very easy read. I really like his take on how just a high IQ score doesn't automatically mean success. What he has to say about middle/upper class parents and how they differ from poor parents is something I can see in my own school where I work. it's definitely a good read.

All of Gladwell's books are very interesting: The Tipping Point and Blink are the two others. Both were bestsellers and were well liked by critics.

Don't feel bad, Tina... She hooked Peter in as well. I don't know why I didn't get past the first two chapters. It just bored me, to be honest.

^ I understand that. To me, the story doesn't really pick up until Bella discovers Edward is a vampire.

I also love the Little House books. My grandmother gave me a set of them when I was little and I read all of them. Excellent books. And so much better than the show. <ugh>
Taran, you should put the Little House books on your list of books to read.

I'm rereading Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. I only have 3 chapters left. I"m in a book club and it's our first read. We're having our first meeting Friday. Can't wait.

Re:What book are you reading... NOW? 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 8
thanks for the info on the movie, Sue; ive always wanted to see it but i wanted to read it first because i know that books are normally better than the movies they make out of them, and i didnt want to know the ending before reading it. i really like Gregory Peck, and it was actually nice to have him in my mind when reading the part of Atticus

Rachel has also started reading the Twilight series. she LOVES vampires more than anything and she resisted it till the craze died down lol. she has worn out TWO copies of Interview With A Vampire

Am now reading Mysteries of the Middle Ages: The rise of feminism, science, and art from the cults of Catholic Europe by Thomas Cahill. He also wrote, How the Irish saved civilization.

After that I'll be back to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The bookclub decided to go ahead and read the whole Potter series.

I finally finished Breaking Dawn. I think I'll take a small break from reading for awhile, then I'll start on something else.

^ Thank you! I thought I was never going to finish the last book. Some parts of it should've been trimmed a bit, but it was still enjoyable. And I'm still Team Jacob. ( Nothing against Edward tho.)

i have given up on The Dubliners, tho i did read about 25 pages. it was very hard to read, and i think i gave it a fair try. it wasnt very easy to follow and i found it boring as well..

on the up side, i just read Designing Disney by John Hench (Rachel got it for me when she was working at WDW at the Disney CM store coz the cover was cut a bit

currently, i borrowed The Disneyland Encyclopedia from the library which is great coz its exactly like that...short entries about everyone and everything Disneyland. Walt, of course, has about 3 pages of info

along with that, i have started Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey. again, not that easy to read with the way they spoke and she keeps referring to things as tho im reading Cliff notes or something. reading the fun info about Disneyland gives me a break from the novel

If all else fails, maybe you can find a copy of the TV adaption of "Northanger Abbey." They aired it on PBS' "Masterpiece Theatre" last year. I really, really enjoyed it.
