TOPIC: Iron Imagineer

Iron Imagineer 23 May 2006 13:01 #106791

Okay Imagineers -- this one's been on my table for quite some time, and I have been wanting to share it for while, but I don't know if this will revitalize this forum, or kill it. Just kidding. It won't kill it... I hope!

I want to start a new imagineering contest which would be modeled after Food Network's program "Iron Chef America." Our battle will be IRON IMAGINEER!

The contest would be similar to the show, except it will take place in cyberspace or what I will call "MAPO Stadium." Two imagineeers will compete in catagories calling for Taste (the secret ingredient being "cooked" right), Originality, and Plating (the presentation of the idea.)

Judges -- who would be asked to participate by the Chairperson (me!) -- would give up to 20 points for each contestant. The Chairperson would also announce the "secret ingredient," which would be a Disney theme, such as a movie or classic character, or even just a concept -- I'll try to be as different as possible!

The dueling imagineers will brainstorm their ideas on the thread for a week. Once the week is up, they will be called to put their work down in a "final plating," which will then be judged.

The way I see it, if a person is a judge, they cannot compete in the duel. Nor can the chairperson compete. The competition should only be head-to-head, one-on-one. It also calls for a martial art type approach. Each imagineer should be respectful of the ideas of one another and other imagineers.

The first contestants will automatically be titled Iron Imagineers, and can be challenged by another imagineer for the preceeding battle. The 3 imagineers with the highest scores will be our Iron Imagineers.

Does this sound fun? Anything anyone wants to add? Comments...?

Sounds like fun....I'm in!!! One question though.... can you be a judge for one challenge and a participant in another? or once you commit to being a judge is that your final choice? Just wanted to know! Either way, sounds like a good time to me!!!!

Oh sure! Just not on the same battle.

In fact, once it gets going, I might like to challenge an Iron Imagineer as well, or judge a battle.

As chairperson, I am going to pick the judges. I will try to pick those who are wise to the ways of Disney as well as Imagineering in general.

Re: Iron Imagineer 23 May 2006 23:34 #106812

Okay, I have my two competitors willing to battle it out in MAPO Stadium. This means tloolgb and mickeysgal will be the first contestants to be named Iron Imagineers, no matter the outcome of this bout, and they will be able to judge other bouts, but not their own.

I will need judges. Soon I will put out a few invites, but do I have any people who would like to put their scrutiny and scruples to the test, to apply their knowledge of Imagineer know-how into a rigorous number crunching critique?

In judging, I will recieve the judgements through PMs and tally their totals. I don't want any hard feelings, remember Iron Imagineers are true Warriors of Imagination and integrity is part of their honor!

[insert gong noise here]

(The drama is part of the show ;) )

PeterPan will be my first judge. (I just asked him. He said, "Yes...")

Sorry for the delay. Peter says he'll come back to be a judge. (Maybe if you clap really hard and say you believe in faeries, he may be persuaded to post on other boards as well. ;) )

Yes, jamseyboy, you can be one of our judges this battle.

This friday, our secret ingredient will be announced. The anticipation is gearing up for a battle of fantasmic proportions!

The bout:

IRON IMAGINEER TLOOLGB
VS.
IRON IMAGINEER MICKEYSGAL

In a struggle for guts and glory, they will put on their thinking mouskecaps and prove who has the imagineering skills to be the top IRON IMAGINEER!!

Just make sure that there is a reason you do not like it, and state that reason.

But beware, if you want to compete as well, those who judge will be judged as well.

With no other judge, and one of our competitors out on the road our disney duel cannot be complete. The bout must be delayed until next friday (?) Is that good for everyone?

But I still need a judge...

Let me send some more invitations.

What we'll do is go for next friday. I know I know -- it's a bit of a wait, but I gotta get things together.

First of all, and I think most importantly I need to set down a valid scoring matrix we should judge by, making it easier to understand how and what to judge.

Hopefully we will find another judge soon.

Okay, it's settled.

TLOOLGB VS MICKEYSGAL

Friday, June 9

Our illustrious judges here at MAPO Stadium are:

Peter Pan - flying in from Neverland, he is a world-wide musical star, peanut butter advocate, and the only boy to have a psychological complex named after him.

jamesyboy - a self-described hardliner, he hails from Spain. jamesy has half-built many imaginary Disney parks himself for a good part of the Millennium, so his presence here is appropo.

and last, but not least:

Taran - A wandering, sensitive young warrior who mastered the art of friendship when he sacrificed his magical sword for his quasi-primate friend, Gurgi. He enjoys the "The Rescuers," Denny's Restaurants and assistant pig keeping.

Thank you all for joining us. We'll see you there!

Can we go over the contestants rules one more time...just so I make sure I understand. Once the "secret" topic is revealed...we take the week to develop, then post on the following Friday......or do we post little by little? And what criteria are the judges looking for...ie, what are the categories we are judged on?

Just wanted to know...don't want to go down in history as the contestant that screwed it all up!

Thanks!!!

Re: Iron Imagineer 09 Jun 2006 13:41 #107057

We are looking for Taste -- the secret ingredient being "cooked" right -- meaning how well do you theme the attraction. Originality -- self explanatory. Plating is the presentation of the idea, how well you express the idea. Use of detail and lots of description is the key; all in a cohesive, easy to understand format.

You are encouraged to brainstorm, perhaps on a different thread so that your idea will be able to be fine tuned.

AND NOW HERE'S THE SECRET INGREDIENT

ALA IMAGINE!!!

Go to it Iron Imagineers!!!

Make a Pluto addition to a park of your choice, preferrably in one of the Toontowns. Be sure to be descriptive and above all, have fun! :D
