Wish there was a monorail going from the Magic Kingdom to all of the All Star resorts. My family and I went last August and let me tell, you that it wa no fun having sleepy 2 year old asleep in my arms while waiting for the bus and having my seven year old saying when is hte next bus coming as the hot rain starts to fall.

In fact it would be great if the monorail system can run throughout the Magic Kingdom and the rest of the parks and resorts.

I can't see it happening somehow - you'd just end up standing, waiting for a monorail instead of a bus :)

Yeah but monorails come quicker and can carry more people at once. I too wish they'd expand the system. I can't imagine Disney doing it for the All Stars, but it would be a lovely dream come true. ;)

I've noticed one thing with Disney Transportation....It can suck or its great and theres no ryhme or reason

I've Stayed at all different levels of resorts. It doesnt matter. Acttually the best ive ever had was a POP Century one trip...I Had Good bus karma. ;)

Yeah Earl I said Karma thats thats the only way to explain it usually if the transport sucks the first day it will suck the whole trip if its good the first day it will be good the whole trip.

Fortunately its usually somewhere in the middle which is bareable (of course i dont have small children)

Really the only way around it is to add the expense of renting your own car.

So you have to weigh everything when your planning. If yu rented a car anyway hey resort guest park free :)

^ I'm a true believer in bus karma. :) ;)

Also, the resort monorail system sometimes isn't the best way of getting around. Especially if it's the busy season. At Christmas we were at the Grand Floridian checking out the gingerbread house there. Afterwards we went to get on the monorail to head back to the MK. It was packed by the time it got to us ( with GF being the final stop after the Poly and the Contemporary) and I'm not sure if everyone waiting at GF even got to go on the monorail and had to wait for the next one.

And besides, I heard that Disney has no plans to expand the monorail anywhere. Too expensive. :(

There's a rumour that Disney are developing a system that allows guests to 'apparate' to their park of choice. Initially Universal were interested in this concept to tie in with their Harry Potter development, but Hermione Granger pointed out that it was impossible to apparate into the grounds of Hogwarts. She added that this should be obvious to anyone who has read "Hogwarts: A History", before storming off to the girl's dormitory.

^ :-s that's odd. The rumour I heard was that Disney was thinking of using Floo powder for guests to use to get around. ;)

Sorry beachfan, but we're also big Harry Potter fans around here too. :)

And welcome to the boards!

Oh I'd definitely rather apparate than use the floo! That would be almost as bad as taking the bus. 8)

Sorry NJ, but as good as one can have of bus karma, there's no escaping the nightmare of trying to get home after MK closes... no matter how good you've been in your past lives, it's always packed like sardines and most of the time you're stuck standing. No fun I say! I'd much rather drive around ourselves or take the mororail, whenever possible.

Oh and welcome beachfan! :)

Trust me, I'd much rather stand and wait for a bus then stand and wait for a monorail or ferry to take me back to the MK entrance, then, waiting in line for a tram to take you to the parking lot where you have hopefully remembered where you parked your car. Then, you have to wait in line and dodge oncoming, crazy tourists who have no idea where they're going as they are leaving the MK. then, you have to figure out how you're going to get back to your resort, because it always looks different in the nighttime, not to mention other tourists who don't know where they're going because it's their first time and they just missed their exit so they're cutting in front of you, backing up, or making illegal u-turns to get where they want to go. When you visit the MK, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS take WDW bus transportation. Did I make myself clear? The parking situation at the MK has gotten so crazy that we've decided to park at Epcot and just monorail to the MK in the future. I haven't gone into details, but our last 2 visits to the MK parking lot have been fraught with craziness and near collisions. These reminded us of other incidents in the past which prompted up to park at Epcot when going to the MK. We're through with the MK's parking lot. Other parks' parking lots are fine, but if you're staying on resort property you should just always take a Disney bus to the MK.

I"m moving this discussion to Theme Parks.

Welcome to the boards beachfan. I am a huge fan of the disney bus system. Park buses and DME have worked well for us each time (knock on wood). That is even when I was by myself with a 4 and 2 year old at the end of the night.
