I was looking forward to it too. I think it would have started off our Thanksgiving break. :( Too me, the Christmas season fits with Harry Potter much better than summer. I don't know why, I just think of HP as more of a Christmasy/wintery kind of movie. I want it cold with dark skies when I see Potter.

Speaking of Christmas, am I the only one who's already hearing the jingle of bells? 8)

 Not yet. I was in Sam's Club this week and they had Halloween decorations up. 8O Next month will probably by Christmas decorations.

 I did hear, tho, that the castle at the Kingdom already has some Christmas lights up.

Yea! Darre Torres just won her heat. Qualifying for the finals. Let's hear it for the "middle aged"! :D (not that I think being 40 is in any way middle aged 8-[ 40 is just the beginning)

Warner Bros. is just thinking about their bottom line instead of giving the fans what they want. Grrrrrrrrrrr!

Ah well. At least I can watch this to cheer me up! It's totally amazing! :D

Yes - sounds like you have a bad case of tinnitus.

Yeah Tina, I saw that a couple of weeks ago - I nearly posted it  . I think HP fans should boycott all other Warner films and Warner Village cinemas - lets see how that effects their bottom line.

I couldn't resist. ;)

I've read that a lot of people are planning on boycotting WB. To add insult to injury, the cover of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly was Harry Potter as a film to see for the Fall movie season.

Some have speculated that WB didn't want the competition from the movie Twilight. :? While the Twilight series has its fans, it's no Harry Potter.

I know exactly what you mean. I like to read the books in the winter with a glass of red wine...or two.

I think this can only be negative for the film considering we've already had a teaser and set reports. Even if Warner Bros are doing it for financial reasons as they say, people will speculate that there is a major problem with the film - one that will take nearly a year to fix. Surely that can only effect negatively at the box office, compared to the praise and hype that built leading to the release of Dark Knight. Bizarrely, saying it's to squeeze more money out of us seems more acceptable than interfering with the story or cast.

What do other people think - did they do it for the money? Or did they not like what they saw when they viewed it 4 weeks ago? Surely WB could see how negatively the news would be received - which might point towards the movie not working - we had to pull it! Otherwise they are greedy or incredibly naive.

Re: Harry Potter films 20 Aug 2008 19:08 #118746

WB had a huge, mega, mega-hit with the Dark Knight and made a ton of money. And should they release Harry Potter this November, they'll make even more. Now next year, if they don't have a big event film, they won't make as much money, their stock will go down and they'll have angry shareholders to answer to. So they decide to spread the wealth and release HP next year. At least that's my theory. :?

All I know is, whatever the reason, I am very upset with WB for doing this.

I can understand that argument, it may well be the company's strategy. But I wonder what will ultimately be more damaging to the company - the risk of not having a guaranteed hit next summer, or the negative speculation actually hurting the income from HBP?

I've seen a lot of online petitions to get WB to move back the release date of HBP. For all the good it'll do.

If HBP fails, WB will have no one to blame but themselves.

Entertainment Weekly posted pretty much the same thing Tina did. What with the writer's strike there really is not that much in the pipeline to release next summer. I think it really is a money move. A greedy, selfish, money-grubbing, no thought at all about the fans of the movie move.

I know. I was trying to put a somewhat positive spin on things. But still, this sucks! I know several WB executives who'll be getting coal in their stockings this year.

Somehow they will end up with chocolate coins covered in gold foil. Alas, such is the way of the Hollywood.

Thank you for posting that. It sounds like a perfectly great movie. Possibly the best Potter film yet.

I'm sure I can wait 10 months for this. :---)

Have I forgotten to mention again how much I hate WB?
